Every year, a large number of animations are produced and distributed around the world. Anime, which is a Japanese term that originated in Japan and specifically refers to Japanese animations, is used here.

The earliest Japanese animation is reported to have been created and released in 1917. Astro Boy (a.k.a. Mighty Atom) was the first anime series to be broadcast on television in Japan, and it was released in 1963. Every year, hundreds of new anime series are shown on television and distributed through movie streaming services, and the number of must-see anime continues to rise.

In Japan, the anime business has thrived in part due to the presence of other Japanese pop cultures such as manga, video games, and light novels. Anime adaptations of manga, video games, light novels, and other media are among the most popular. And anime has grown so quickly around the world because everyone can watch Japanese animations with English dubs and subtitles.

The following are the top 30 anime series, which include both old and new franchises. This anime list only includes TV anime series, which the Japanese refer to as “anime.” It does not include anime movies such as Studio Ghibli films or Makoto Shinkai’s cartoons.

It’s difficult to choose only 30 anime, and there are plenty of other appealing anime that are worth seeing outside of the greatest anime list.

In recent years, the world of anime has grown in popularity, but you may have already seen an anime that you didn’t realise was one.

This popularity may be observed in the numerous comic and anime conventions held across the world. People dressed up like their favourite anime character.

Most Popular Anime Around the World

#1. Pikachu

Most Popular Anime Around the World

Pokemon is an anime that all children, teenagers, and even adults are familiar with. Even if they haven’t seen the show, they are all familiar with the characters. This is how well-known Pokemon is all throughout the globe. It has friends in the United States, Russia, China, India, and everywhere else.

Many people are unaware that it is an anime and refer to it as a cartoon, however it is based on a Japanese video game called Pocket Monsters. It first gained popularity in Japan as a gameboy game with Red as the primary character. And his name has been mentioned numerous times in anime. However, in anime, a new character named Ash Ketchum was developed, and a gameboy game called Pokemon Yellow was released shortly after. Pokemon has evolved into a brand, not merely a game or anime.

It offers a wide range of items, including toys, games, and physical card games, and it is available on a variety of platforms, including television, Nintendo, Gameboy, PlayStation, and many others. The popularity of pokemon is the reason that new seasons are released every year, including pokemon, pokemon orange island, pokemon masters, pokemon sun and moon, pokemon sword and shield, and many more.

#2. Dragon Ball Z

Most Popular Anime Around the World

Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball Z are two of the most popular and well-known anime series in the world, with a large fan base in both Japan and Western countries. Goku’s kamehameha is a move that every anime cosplayer should know. Goku’s popularity may be shown in the number of drawings he has on the internet. Goku is a guy that is always at the top of his game, while Vegeta is a character who is always putting in the effort to defeat him.

Aside from the fights, the audience enjoy the show because of the competitive rivalry between the characters. I first saw Dragon Ball Z when I was about 7 years old. At the time, I had no idea what anime was and thought it was just like any other cartoon, which I was mistaken about. Although Dragon Ball Z was created with children in mind, I continue to like it.

From dragon ball, DBZ, DBZ gt, and dragon ball super, DBZ has more than 12 arcs. It has a manga series that has been going for 20 years and an anime series that has been running for 15 to 18 years. Dragon Ball began as a narrative about a youngster named Goku, who is based on Sun Wukong from the Journey to the West. And while the idea of it being changed into a multi-universal game was never in the author’s mind at the time, the fans embraced the change, and dbz became what it is today. We grew up with him, which explains why it is so popular.

#3. Naruto

Most Popular Anime Around the World

Naruto has always been a popular figure, with many teenagers, children, and even adults identifying with him. Naruto is a popular anime series among teenagers all over the world. At that age, we all believe we lack skill, but after watching Naruto, we believe that with hard effort and determination, we can be successful in life even if we lack talent.

It was one of the top three manga sold worldwide, although while manga sales mostly reflect its success in Japan, the number of individuals dressed up as Naruto Tsunade at anime conventions demonstrates the franchise’s global impact.

Naruto has also given us a plethora of characters with whom many people identify, such a quiet and lonely Naruto, a rebel Sasuke, a pretty-looking but terrifying if you go too close Sakura, and many more. Naruto was originally intended to be a cookery manga, according to the creator in an interview, because the name Naruto is a ramen ingredient.

#4. Digimon

Most Popular Anime Around the World

Digimon is another childhood recollection of an anime that I adored and believed all of the monsters were real. Digimon was created in the 1990s based on the concept that all of our data travels to another universe and takes the form of a monster. Digimon digital monsters were the name given to these monsters. It struck a chord with people in the 1990s and grew in popularity as a result.

It contains all of the elements seen in Pokemon, such as monsters, evolution, and a new universe in which these monsters battle. Many people believe that digimon is based on pokemon, but this is not the case; it was created before the game, but gained fame as an anime based on pokemon after the game’s success.

#5. Doraemon

Most Popular Anime Around the World

Doraemon is currently the most popular anime created with children in mind. This blue round cat racoon was a childhood fantasy of all of us to have, as it would provide us with gadgets in all kinds of situations, such as flying to school in a helicopter and travelling around the world via the ward door thing.

Doraemon’s plot was about a raccoon dog-like robot who was sent back in time to assist Nobita in his daily struggles so that he may become the world’s top scientist in the future. But, friends, did you know that there is a conspiracy theory about Doraemon? If you want to read it, check the link. It was a science fiction anime, and I recall seeing others such as Doraemon, which was very near to my heart but not as well-known as Kiteretsu, Kochikame, and Perman.

#6. Shinchan

Most Popular Anime Around the World

Shinchan is also one of the most popular anime series for children. Even if we only watch one episode, we become addicted to it. Even though I’m 23, it’s still a show that I enjoy watching after 20 years. Shinchan is a naughty kindergarten youngster who, like any other 4-5 year old boy, creates a plethora of items that will melt anyone’s heart.

It’s not a story-driven anime; rather, it’s a lighthearted animation that everyone will enjoy watching in their spare time. Also, there is a really sad conspiracy idea about Shinchan that will make anyone who knows him and his sister upset, which you can read about at this link.

#7. Death Note

If we’re talking about an anime that every newcomer to the genre should watch, Death Note is undoubtedly at the top of the list. Why not? It’s an anime with a level of suspense and intrigue that we don’t even see in Sherlock Holmes. The plot revolves around a note book in which if you put down a person’s name, he dies.

And, gentlemen, did you know that death notes are forbidden in many nations because they spread the rumour among youngsters that if they put their instructors’ names on the note, they would be set free? But, as we all know, that does not come easily. That is also one of the reasons why Death Note is so popular, along with the tale behind it.

The reason it isn’t higher on this list is that it is one of those anime that isn’t intended for children, thus it isn’t broadcast on television, and we won’t watch it until we understand the difference between anime and cartoons. We watched naruto as a cartoon, we watched dbz as a cartoon, but we can never watch Death Note as a cartoon because it is against nature’s rule.

#8.One piece

One Piece is the only manga I’m aware of that has a Guinness World Record for the most sold manga in the world. It’s one of the best manga, as well as one of the longest-running, with a plot centred on pirates and the war of the seas. One Piece began 20 years ago with the search for the pirate treasure left by the king of pirates, Gol D. Roger, and continues today with our protagonist Luffy embarking on a journey around the world to find it. On his voyage, he meets a swordsman, a cook, a navigator, a doctor, a mechanic, a drummer, and a spy from all over the world.

One artwork was created by combining stories from all across the world, ranging from mythology to technology. Beasts, monsters, sailors, and mermaids all appear in one piece. From India’s Indra to China’s Dragon, it has Zeus, Poseidon, and Neptune. And this is one of the reasons why it is so popular in many nations and with people of all ages.

#9. The one-puncher

One Punch Man is only three years old as an anime, but man, what a level of popularity it has achieved in such a short period. It’s on every top ten anime list and every beginner’s anime list, and it’s well deserved. It began as a manga created by one person, which Murata converted into a manga and anime, turning it into a treasure among animes. It’s a satire of Goku and Superman, two heroes who no one can ever defeat since they’re always powerful.

But what if they were genuinely so powerful that their single punch killed all the villains, and they couldn’t find a suitable opponent who could make their adrenaline flow? And that is exactly what the one-punch-man saitama is designed to demonstrate. This is full of other parody characters that name their powers and even villains, all of whom come together to provide a concealed sense of humour.

And the storey isn’t just about saitama, the protagonist; it’s about all of the characters, and it all comes to a close with his single punch. And it’s because of this twist that it’s become so popular all around the world. It includes some fantastic sequences with a wealth of detail, and Madhouse has done an outstanding job in making One Punch Man a masterpiece. It is extremely popular all around the world, and anyone who has ever watched an anime would undoubtedly enjoy OPM.

#10. Bleach

Bleach was a hugely popular anime for the majority of its run, but now that it’s finished and the climax was done 5 years ago, it’s been largely forgotten. However, it was a must-see for all anime fans when it was on the air. It covers the life of Ichigo Kurosaki, who was just like any other adolescent. But one day he witnessed a person die, his soul transform into a ghoul, and a soul reaper arrive to murder the ghoul so the world’s equilibrium is maintained.

And, as a result of a series of events, he became a soul reaper himself. He learned about spirit society, the hueco mundo, ghouls, and the world balance that produced that universe from there. And I have to admit that Bleach features one of the best anime villains out there in Aizen, who is a figure whom no one can detest while also being despised by everyone.

The cruellest and most terrible character ever imagined, who simply fantasises about destroying the planet for no apparent reason. Bleach fans can be found at every anime convention in the world, so I had to include it in this list of the top 10 most popular anime worldwide. Guys, if you haven’t read bleach, I implore you to do so simply to meet my favourite villain, Aizen.

#11.Detective Conan

Detective conan

Conan the detective Now we have a storey based on Sherlock Holmes, and if you enjoy Arthur Conan Doyle’s work, you will appreciate Detective Conan. You can probably assume from the name that it’s a detective anime with over 1000 episodes centred on our Conan, who looks like a kindergartener, solving murder mysteries.

Conan is an 18-year-old teenager whose body was altered as a result of a drug administered by a criminal organisation. This long-running anime contains romance, adventure, and mystery, all of which everyone will enjoy.

#12. Kimetsu No Yaiba

Kimetsu no yaiba demon slayer the movie mugen train

In 2020, Kimetsu no yaiba, or Demon Slayer as it is known to Western audiences, became one of the most popular and viewed anime. And it evolved from a shonen manga to an anime, with a film adaptation that shocked the box office. This animation is set during Japan’s taisho period, when ghosts and yokai wander the countryside, killing humans for nourishment.

Our protagonist was also a victim of those ghosts, losing his entire family, including his mother and siblings, with the exception of her younger sister, who had turned into a yokai herself. So, in order to save his sister, he became a demon slayer and resolved to murder all demon progenitors in order to rid the world of demons.

This is a relatively simple shonen anime, but what made it so unique was the animation, which had CGI realistic sequences that did credit to the tale. This year, a sequel film, Demon Slayer: Mugen Train, was released, which follows the anime’s storey. The tale isn’t over yet, yet it’s already become one of the most popular anime series in the world.

#13. Inuyasha

Inuyasha and kagome from inuyasha anime

One of the all-time favourites that will convert anyone to an anime enthusiast. Inuyasha is set in Japan 600 years ago. Our protagonist travels through time to find his long-lost beloved, Inuyasha, a yokai nine-tailed fox.

A demon named Naraku separated them in order to obtain the shikon jewel within our heroine, which can grant any request. Inuyasha and Kagome, our protagonists in the anime, marry at the end of the series, and their daughter becomes the protagonist of a separate anime. Guys, I’ve also compiled a list of the ten anime characters who have ultimately married, which includes Inuyasha and Kagome.

#14.Attack on Titan

Attack on Titan anime

This year, the final ending manga chapter of this gigantic fish in the anime industry was released, gaining a lot of attention due to its unsatisfactory finish among many fans. The anime is still airing, and it will take some time before it reaches the manga’s conclusion.

The storey begins on a planet where humanity’s remnants live in three concentric cities, each surrounded by massive walls to defend them from attacks by Titans, massive humanoid entities who devour humans for no apparent reason.

It follows Eren Jaeger’s exploits, as well as those of his pals Mikasa Ackerman and Armin Arlert, whose lives are permanently transformed when a Colossal Titan penetrates the town’s wall. Eren and his pals join the Scout Regiment, an elite organisation of warriors who combat Titans, vowing vengeance and reclaiming the Earth from the Titans.

#15 Jojo Bizarre Adventure

Jojo bizarre adventure most unique anime

The popular manga and anime franchise JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure has been published since 1987, with titles ranging from Phantom Blood () to Jojolion (). (as of 2020). Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure is an anime that is not suitable for newcomers to anime because it is packed with action and fighting. Jojo’s visual style, which is full of exaggeration and weird looks, sets it apart from other anime.

The Joestarts are at the centre of the plot. It contains a vampire, an oddball, a pervert, and everything else that will make you fall in love with this show. I’ll admit that I’m not a huge fan of Jojo, but it’s still a fun read that’s quite popular.

#16 Cowboy Bebop

Cowboy Bebop anime from 1990

Cowboy Bebop is an anime that was well-received by both Japanese and Western audiences when it was first aired. It has won numerous anime awards and has been hailed for its anime, visual style, voice dubbing, and other aspects. It was animated by Madhouse Studio, a well-known name in the anime business who has produced a number of notable works, including One Punch Man.

The series’ twenty-six episodes (or “sessions”) are set in the year 2071 and follow the adventures of a bounty hunter crew aboard their starship, the Bebop. Cowboy Bebop pulls extensively on science fiction, western, and noir films throughout its course, despite covering a wide spectrum of genres.

#17 Fullmetal Alchemist :Brotheehood

Fullmetal alchemists brotherhood anime

Edward and Alphonse Elric are reared in the secluded village of Resembool in the land of Amestris by their mother Trisha Elric. While in Trisha’s care, the boys began to display an affinity for alchemy and became intrigued about its secrets, as their father Hohenheim, a well-known and skilled alchemist, abandoned his family while the boys were still young.

#18 Yu Yu Hakusho

Yu yu halusho by Togashi the author of hunter x hunter

Yu yu hakusho was a popular manga written by Yoshiro Togashi, who is also the husband of the mangaka of Sailor Moon, another renowned anime. Togashi is a horror and occult fan who created yu yu hakusho, a narrative about Usuke Urameshi, a college delinquent who dies and is chosen as an underworld detective by the Japanese version of Yama, the God of Death.

He was tasked with dealing with incidents involving the dead and demons, and as the storey progresses, it moves to the underworld, where many secrets about Yusuke are exposed. Yusuke destroys the demons and maintains them under control with an energy gun he wears on his fingers called the Rei gun.

#19 Fruit Basket

Fruit basket anime

Fruits Basket is the storey of Tohru Honda, an orphan girl who discovers, after meeting Yuki, Kyo, and Shigure Soma, that twelve members of the Soma family are cursed to transform into their animal forms when they are weak, stressed, or embraced by anyone of the opposite sex who is not possessed by a spirit of the zodiac. Tohru learns of the struggles and agony endured by the affected members of the Soma family as the book unfolds, and she helps them heal their emotional scars via her own giving and compassionate personality.

Tohru discovers more about herself and how much people care for her as she learns more about Yuki, Kyo, and the rest of the mysterious Soma family.

20 Hunter X Hunter is a battle between two hunters. This is an action adventure anime set in a world where select individuals take an exam to become qualified hunter adventurers who search the world for unknown and frightening creatures.

People learn to use the hidden energies within their bodies by learning about Nen (also known as chakra in India), which provides them with various skills. Hunter x hunter’s manga and anime, both for their art style and storey, became extremely popular ten years ago. It features some fantastic characters, like Hisoka and Meruem, who are among the best villains ever penned. Well, it is also a Togashi work whose animation has been done, but the manga following the anime’s tale is currently on hiatus, and given Togashi’s health, there is a good chance we may never see it’s conclusion.
